About The Font

Jelle Bosma is a Dutch typeface designer who has worked on several font design projects. In 2004, he designed the Cambria font, a transitional serif typeface. Steve Matteson and Robin Nicholas have also helped him improve the font over time and added their unique flair to the design. From 2004 to 2006, Microsft and Tiro Typeworks developed this typeface for everyone’s use. Later, in 2007, Microsoft commissioned the Cambria font for its Windows and office products.

With Windows Vista, Microsoft released a collection of fonts from various designers called the Clear Type Font Collection. Due to the latest typesetting technology, they are easier to read on LCD monitors. The space between each character in this font is even, while the vertical serifs are powerful.

For use with Microsoft’s updated mathematical typesetting system, the Cambria font project added several thousand glyphs, hinting, custom tables, and other features. The project also included editing, writing, production, and designing “Mathematical Typesetting.” Also, developing a booklet about some of the history of mathematical typesetting, its difficulties, with updated math layout technology and the Cambria Math font. Cambria Math is a version of the Cambria font used for math and science texts as an alternative to Times New Roman.
